Chronic Respiratory diseases encompass Asthma, Chronic Airways Disease, COPD, Lung Cancer.
Together with Northern Rivers Area Health, Casino Community Health and Dharah Gibinj a monthly Respiratory Clinic is held at Dharah Gibinj. Currently these are on the third Tuesday each month. These Clinics consist of a Respiratory Specialist, GP, Exercise Physiologist, Physiotherapist, Asthma Educator, Aboriginal Health Worker and Registered Nurses. Spirometry, Oximeter and 6 minute walk tests are performed and assessment and education on medication administration along with exercise capability assessment and individual exercise programs are developed. ‘Smoke Check’ is performed and smoking cessation is encouraged with referrals to Smoking Cessation Programs provided.
Our aim in the future is to take this format out to the other communities in 2009 providing specialist health professional access to respiratory clients who live in these communities.
At present we have respiratory education in the form of meetings and get togethers with Aboriginal Health Workers, an Exercise Physiologist and also visiting speakers on various health topics. These visiting speakers are sometimes an RN, Specialist Physicians or Allied Health Professionals
